Proving again they have perhaps one of the Central Section's best two girls tennis teams, Bakersfield Christian and Garces sent six players into the round of 16 in singles or doubles at the section's individual championships Saturday at Visalia-Redwood High School.

All six of Kern County's seeded singles players advanced to the round of 16.

BCHS sisters Lyndsay and Chelby Cooke, seeded second and fourth, both cruised into the third round, as did the No. 3 seed, Garces freshman Gracie Jacobs and Frontier's No. 5 seed, Danisa Hromadkova.

Garces senior Abby Wattenbarger and East's Nancy Ramirez were the other players to make the round of 16, which will be played Friday morning at Redwood. The quarterfinals will follow, with semifinals and finals scheduled for next Saturday at the In Shape Club in Visalia.

Bakersfield Christian and Garces also sent two doubles teams into the round of 16. For BCHS, it was second-seeded Lily Schuler-Carolyn Stevens and No. 12 Jimmi Futrell-Melissa Merrill. Garces has No. 8 Carly Tucker-Crimson Hochhalter and No. 10 Zoe Tucker-Sarah McDermott.

BCHS is seeded first in the Division V team section playoffs and plays its title match at home Tuesday against Fowler. Garces is seeded second in Division II and hosts Frontier in a semifinal Tuesday.

Three local seeded doubles teams, however, lost in the second round, one from Garces and two from Stockdale, which saw all seven of its qualifiers eliminated on the first day.
