Cal State Bakersfield has signed four high school seniors to softball letters of intent, Roadrunner coach Kathy Welter announced.
They are infielders Myshayla Fryer from San Diego-University High School and Amy Ricciardi from Chino Hills-Ayala High School; pitcher Sarah Hoag from Monterey High School and catcher-third baseman Jazmine Lee from Los Alamitos High School.
Fryer hit .376 as a junior and helped University win the San Diego Section CIF Div. III title.
Ricciardi helped Ayala High to the Sierra League title last season when she hit .312 and had a .951 fielding percentage.
Hoag struck out 179 batters in 160 innings and posted a 1.66 ERA at Monterey High last season.
Lee helped Elk-Grove Pleasant Grove High School to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division I championship last season when she hit .500 with 21 RBIs. She has transferred to Los Alamitos and plays for the Newport Beach Riptide club team.
CSUB begins its first season in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference.
Jockey club to honor local athletes Monday
Seventeen local high school and college athletes will be honored at the Jockey Club's luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Monday at Ellis Island Pizza in the Wild West Shopping Center at Stockdale Highway and Real Road
High school athletes to be honored:
Cross country runners Jeannette Rodriguez, Jake Van Zant and Collin Lewis of Highland High; golfer Karly Lux of Ridgeview; water polo player Megan Varga of Garces; volleyball players Lacey Congdon of Centennial, Erin Jolley and Ashley Morris of Bakersfield; football playersIan Driskill and Will Harvey of Frontier, Austin Davis and Brady Burk of Liberty, and Denzel Givens and Ryan Rangel of Foothill.
BC wrestlers Vince Rivera, Zach Weldon and Bryce Horton also will be honored.
BC men top Porterville
FRESNO Bobby Fisher scored 28 points to lead the Bakersfield College men's basketball team to a 112-97 victory over Porterville College at the Fresno City Tournament.
Chase Adams added 22 for the Renegades (3-2), who advance to the Consolation Championship today at 1 p.m. against Merritt College of Oakland.
Bakersfield took a 54-41 lead into the half and never looked back.
