The annual Bowlers to Veterans Link City Roll-Off tournament will be Saturday and Sunday at AMF Southwest Lanes. Squads are noon and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and noon only on Sunday. Entry fee is $20 and you can re-enter and bowl another squad if you wish. If you haven't entered yet, you can enter this weekend as long as you are enter at least an hour before the squad you wish to bowl. This event is open to local adult and youth bowlers.
The unique feature about this tournament is you bowl in divisions and divisions are based upon your book average. Plus, these divisions are separated even more with men bowling against men, women against women, and for the youth, the boys bowl against boys and girls against girls. This gives all bowlers a true chance to win their division as you are bowling against bowlers in your same average range.
The winners of each division will be recognized at the 2010 GEUSBC (Golden Empire United States Bowling Congress) Awards Banquet in May plus these division winners will together all go, represent Bakersfield, and bowl in the 2010 CUSBC (California United States Bowling Congress) BVL State Classic tournament in the spring.
So, it's not too late to be a part of this fun event which also recognizes local bowlers who are veterans that participate. For more information on participating in this event, contact BVL Chairman, Tony Toone at (661) 366-0379.
JBT BAKER TOURNAMENT AT CANOGA PARK
Local youth bowler, Jimmy Hefley, teamed up with Matt Jones, Kyle King (current points and money leader for JBT), adult Ken McElvaney and Darcie Staggs in the JBT (Junior Bowlers Tour) five-person Baker style shootout at Canoga Park Bowl on Oct. 31. The team named "Dahdoul Textiles, Inc." were the leaders after the 12 games of Baker qualifying. This team last year, minus Hefley, were the defending champs of this tournament. Hefley came on the team this year replacing Duane Cole.
In the title match, they bowled against the team "JAT" which included JBT tournament director Dave Yamauchi. It came down to a third game in the best two-of-three format where team "Dahdoul" captured the title 245-208 over team "JAT"!
The win gives Hefley the third title of his JBT career. Other local youth bowlers competing were Patrick Smith and Gary Smith who teamed up with Kellsie Burns, Luke Holley and adult Art Lesenberg. Their team placed fourth at this event.
JAT AT FOUNTAIN VALLEY
Bakersfield youth bowlers are continually supporting and participating in the JAT tournaments that are held down south. This past Sunday, local youth bowlers Gabriella Mayfield, Joe Mayo and Andrew Svoren competed in the Farm Club division of JAT. Svoren made the top 5 stepladder finals and finished in 5th place.
In the Open division, local youth bowlers Gary Smith and Jimmy Hefley competed. Hefley fired a 300 game in the last game of qualifying. He then went on to follow it up with a 298 game in the first round of match play. Qualifying in the second spot for the top 5 roll off, Hefley had to settle for a third-place finish.
BOWLING TOWEL DRIVE
Any bowlers with an extra bowling towel lying around that they don't use anymore that is in good condition can donate it to Golden Empire United States Bowling Congress. GEUSBC Director Jackie Burrows is going to make a quilt of all donated bowling towels to raffle at the upcoming GEUSBC Mixed City Tournament in February.
Drop off your bowling towels in a bag at Regency attention Jackie Burrows, or bring them to Jackie any Tuesday night at Regency.
AMF LEAGUE BOWLERS HAVE CHANCE TO WIN $500,000
Adult league bowlers at AMF Southwest Lanes or AMF Westchester Lanes can join in to participate in the new AMF National In-League Tournament. There are four divisions (based on your average) and cost is just $3 to enter. You use the games you bowl when you bowl your league. The first session (qualifying window) is going on thru Nov. 15. The top three scores from each division will advance to the District Finals. Cost to enter the District Finals for those who achieve this, is free and will be held at an AMF center down south. If you make it past the District Finals, you will then go on to compete in the National Tournament which will take place in Las Vegas! More details available at either center.

The first two games of the night were with a new ball and he rolled a 286, then came back with a 225 and in the third game he started leaving the 10 pin so switched to his "old faithful" ball to end the night with a 289 game for his 800. Then, on Nov. 2, he started off the night with a 300!
Ron Andrews is working hard to maintain a high average on the Social Group league Thursday nights at Regency. On Oct. 29, Andrews started the night with a 297 game and ended the night with a nice 782 series, showing his consistency. The week before that he rolled a 299!
