Frontier's girls golf team repeated its performance from the Central Section team championships by shooting a 419 on Monday at the CIF Southern Cal Regional Championships.
At the section tourney, that 419 won the Titans a Division II championship. At the regional, it wasn't nearly enough, even at the rough-and-tumble SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta.
"It's a tough course, but sometimes you win and sometimes the course wins," Frontier coach Tony Bernardin said. "We had some decent scores."
Junior Jordanne Barr led the Titans with a 3-over-par 75, two strokes off the score needed to get into a playoff to advance to Wednesday's state tournament in Pebble Beach. She had two birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey.
Meghan Shain shot 83, Tavia Rutherford 85, Cami Ullrich 86 and Malea Miller a 90 to score for Frontier. The Titans start just one senior but now have four players with two years of Southern Cal experience.
"That's what the girls have been saying," Bernardin said. "Last year was really a shock. Now they're saying, 'Third time's the charm, coach.' They're really ready to come back."
Competing as individuals, East's Micah Lopez shot 89 and Stockdale's Abby Marina 90.
