Two Garces football parents have confirmed that the school's head coach, David Fanucchi, told his team Monday morning that he will resign at the end of this season.
Reached Tuesday, Fanucchi said he could neither confirm nor deny that, saying "it's a personal and personnel issue."
One parent said the team's parent organization had sent out an e-mail Monday with the news.
Later Monday, Bill Potter, the swimming coach and head of the aquatic program at Garces, resigned. He confirmed that Tuesday, citing a "difference of opinion" with school administration.
The school's boys athletic director, David's brother Vince Fanucchi, said staff at the school has been instructed not to comment on any personnel matters.
A third Fanucchi brother, former football coach John, is now the school's president, but he is not in charge of personnel decisions. That duty falls to the school's principal, Kathleen Bears. Bears is in her second year at the school after the death of the previous principal, Robert Garcia.
When reached Monday, Bears said no one at Garces could comment on personnel issues except the person directly involved.
David Fanucchi is 41-33-1 and in his seventh year at Garces. This year's Rams team is 1-2 after losing to Fresno-San Joaquin Memorial on Saturday. They play at Golden Valley on Friday.
