ARVIN -- With its offense and defense both playing at a high level, South didn't need any additional help Friday night.

But the Bears were in a giving mood anyway.

Aided by five turnovers, including two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns, South (3-0) continued its early season hot streak in dominating fashion with a 59-13 victory over Arvin (1-3).

The win improves South to 3-0, its best start in more than a decade.

"When we came in we certainly didn't want to maintain the status quo," South coach John Wren said. "We came to turn a program around so I can't be happier about that."

South used a strong running game and solid defensive effort to out-gain Arvin 200 to 84 en route to a 31-6 halftime lead.

Most of the Rebels' yardage came on the ground as Lee West, Odail Crumb and Roger Hebert combined for 176 rushing yards and each scored a touchdown.

Hebert also mixed in a 10-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Castillo as South exploded for 24 second-quarter points.

The Rebels grabbed an early 7-0 lead when Crumb broke containment and raced 38 yards around the right end for a touchdown.

Tony Gasca's blocked punt helped set up a 14-yard Arvin scoring drive late in the first quarter.

South scored on its final four possessions of the first half, including a 36-yard field goal by Eric Garcia.

Already up 24-6 Hebert dealt Arvin the backbreaker with 2:05 left in the half when he faked a handoff into the middle of the line and then bolted 43-yards down the sideline into the end zone.

The onslaught continued in the second half as South backup quarterback Adren Anderson connected with Justin Beavers on a 67-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the fourth quarter to make the score 45-13.

Early in the third quarter Bryant Ayala returned a Jesse Ramirez interception 10-yards for a score.

Cesar Espinoza added a second South defensive touchdown with 5:24 remaining by returning an errant Ramon Carrillo pass 50-yards for the game's final margin.
