The Renegades 8U baseball team went 3-1 and placed third among 12 teams Sept. 11-13 at the Triple Crown's Las Vegas Fall Nationals. In pool play, the Renegades beat the Del Mar Riptides 15-0 and the Henderson Mavericks 11-3 to earn the top seed and a first-round bye in the championship bracket. The Renegades then beat the Henderson Gators 6-4 in the quarterfinals before falling to Team Affliction of Riverside 9-3 in the semis. Renegade players: Anthony Cuellar, Adam Graham, Ethan Cloyd, Noah James, Kaden Sheedy, Vincent Moroyoqui, Benji Caggianneli, Garritt Palomo, Riley Combs. Coaches are Sergio Cuellar, Derek Cloyd, Darren Graham and Toby Sheedy.

Bakersfield United Sports Association will be extending its youth basketball league to year-round. North of the River Recreation and Park District is sponsoring a basketball academy for junior high athletes. The academy will run five consecutive Saturdays beginning Sept. 26 (4-6 p.m.) at Beardsley Junior High's gym. This academy will focus on offensive skills and develop basketball awareness. It will be conducted by The Works Sports Academy of Orange County, and administered by founder/owner Pete Rivas, a former Division I men's basketball assistant coach and a high school coach for 10 years. Bakersfield Bobby Sox will hold signups for the 2010 season Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 22 from 5:30-9 p.m. at Crossroads Pizzeria, in the shopping center on the corner of White Lane and New Stine Road. Girls ages 4-18 may sign up. There are no tryouts; every girl will play regardless of experience. If your daughter is new to Bobby Sox, please bring a copy of her birth certificate to the registration. Cost is $75 for the Mini Sox division (ages 4-6) and $95 for all other divisions. RESULTS

The girls Level 4 gymnastics team from American Kids Sports Center had a strong first meet of the season last weekend in Chatsworth, taking second place. In the 6-8 age group, Datiah Towns took third on bars, and vault and fifth all-around with a 35.350; Kaitlyn McDonnell was third on vault and sixth all-around (35.325). Taylor Bentley took second on bars and 8th all-around with a 35.225. Alyssa Hamon had an all-around of 34.225, Melissa Knight had an all-around of 33.70, Ellie Murdoch had an all-around of 33.450, Maggi Komin had an all-aound of 31.500. In the 9-11 age group, Elly Honaker took sixth on bars and 12th all-around (35.525). Other all-around scores: Megan Marquardt (34.675), Callie Hensley (33.850), Meghan Webb (32.700), Melissa Bothwell (32.400). The Level 4 team is coached by Sheena Gossett and Shannon Smith.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

Garces High graduate Stephen Hale, a golfer for No. 24-ranked Cal, shot a course-record, 8-under-par 63 in the second round to help Golden Bears win the three-round Spartan Golf Classic over the weekend at The Kingsley Club in Kingsley, Mich. The Golden Bears won by 10 strokes over 14 teams. Hale's record round included eight birdies and 10 pars . The course is 6,723 yards. Hale shot a 73 in the first round and a 69 in the third round for an 8-under 205 total.
