Quarterback Josh Legorreta accounted for three touchdowns including a pair of scoring strikes to Jacob Adelman to lead Frontier to a 43-19 victory over South in a Southwest Yosemite League game at Frontier.
Legorreta rushed for 99 yards on 11 carries and passed for another 122 yards for the Titans (8-0, 4-0 SWYL), who jumped out to a big first half lead by scoring on their first three possessions.
The Titans opened the game by marching 68 yards on 11 plays capped by a Legorreta 12-yard keeper. After forcing a Rebels punt, Frontier took just seven plays to march 71 yards -- highlighted by a Rudy Valdivia 18-yard TD to make it 14-0. Valdivia finished with 14 carries for 67 yards.
Following an Adelman interception on the Rebels ensuing possession, Bryson Lockwood's 23-yard TD run finalized another big Titan drive, this one 9 plays for 84 yards, to extend the Frontier lead further.
But after grinding out yards to open the game, the quick-strike Frontier offense clicked through the air in the second half. Legorreta found Adelman on 12 and 47-yard TD passes in the third quarter to make it 36-0 before South responded with some big plays (and a little chicanery) of their own.
Roger Hebert got the Rebels on the board with a 27-yard TD run to close the third quarter, and the Rebels recovered two onside kicks which lead to a pair of long TD runs 51 and 30 yards by Lee West. West had a game-high 184 yards rushing on 17 carries and caught two passes out of the backfield as well. Hebert was 17-of-27 for 68 yards with an interception for the Rebels (5-3, 1-3), with Adren Anderson and Andrew Castillo each grabbing five of those passes.
Matt Darr kicked a 36-yard field goal and Deshaunte Webber scored on a 25-yard TD in the waning seconds of the game for the Titans, who had to overcome seven penalties for more than 100 yards including one that negated an Adelman touchdown return.
