TEHACHAPI Tehachapi's volleyball team is back in the Central Section Division III championship. And this time, the Warriors get to stay home.
Sarah Horcher had 10 kills and 22 digs to lead No. 1 Tehachapi to a 24-26, 25-17, 25-22, 25-15 victory over No. 4 Golden Valley and earn the Warriors a spot in the Division III championship Thursday against No. 2 Exeter.
The Monarchs, who beat No. 6 Ridgeview 25-19, 21-25, 25-14, 25-21 in the semifinals, swept Tehachapi in last year's final at Exeter. The year before, the Warriors lost in three games at Hanford.
Paige Woodward had 24 assists and nine kills for the Warriors. Jalisha Toomer led Golden Valley with nine kills and six blocks, and Kaitlin Toerner added six kills and 11 digs.
In Ridgeview's loss, Ashley Simpson finished with a team-high 10 kills. Brooke Charles followed had seven for the Wolf Pack (15-13).
"It was a grueling battle to the end but we just had too many errors and our passing wasn't there tonight," Ridgeview coach Brandy Charles said.
Division I
FRESNO Alyssa Gammel had 10 kills and Regan Richert added seven, but No. 3 Centennial fell at No. 2 Clovis West, 25-15, 25-18, 25-22 in the Division I semifinals.
It was the Golden Hawks' first loss to Central Section competition.
Carly Maxwell also had 26 assists and eight digs for the Golden Hawks (32-4), who fought back from a seven-point deficit in Game 3 to force a close finish but were unable to force a fourth game.
Top-seeded Clovis-Buchanan swept No. 5 Fresno-Bullard, 25-16, 26-24, 25-18 in the other semifinal. The Buchanan-Clovis West final pits the winners of the past four championships.
Division IV
VISALIA -- Central Section volleyball fans should be getting used to seeing Central Valley Christian and Bakersfield Christian meeting in mid-November with big stakes.
The Cavaliers and Eagles met for the sixth consecutive year in the playoffs, and this time No. 1 CVC pulled out 25-23, 25-22, 27-25 victory against fifth-seeded Bakersfield Christian in the Division IV semifinals at the CVC gymnasium.
The Cavaliers led 17-11 in the first game, but the Eagles battled back to make it 24-23. CVC would win the game on an Ashley Vander Tuig kill.
BCHS led 20-15 in Game 2, but was unable to maintain it.
