On the game's first play from scrimmage, East High quarterback Joe Pearson hooked up with Akkeli Holley for a 75-yard touchdown pass. The scoring play would set the pace as the Blades topped Golden Valley 40-30 to improve to 2-0 in the Southeast Yosemite League.

Holley's 75-yard reception was the beginning of a huge night for the receiver as he hauled in four passes for 126 yards with two touchdowns to go along with a drive-stopping interception late in the third quarter.

"Holley, he's a special kid," East High coach Jerald Pierucci said. "He's still learning, but the kid has a bunch of potential."

Golden Valley opened things up in the second quarter with a 25-yard reverse touchdown pass from Darian Parkert to Daryn Johnson on a fourth-and-20. Golden Valley then recovered an onside kick gaining an opportunity to tie the score going into the first half.

Following another fourth-down conversion, the Bulldogs saw their drive come to a halt two plays later when linebacker Joaquin Guerra recorded the game's first sack with 51 seconds left in the half.

Golden Valley scored the first three points of the second half, but saw two of their next three drives end in Anthony Bishop interceptions. Holley picked off Bishop on the 1-yard-line and returned 72 yards to set up a Ronnie Galindo 11-yard touchdown catch.

The Blades' Pearson finished with 282 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. Eric Salizar finished with 129 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Golden Valley's Bishop finished with 287 yards and a touchdown to go along with his three interceptions. Armando Munguia had five rushes for 91 yards.
