Local report: Oakes, Gammel help softball teams reach final four at national tourney

Bakersfield products Mackenzie Oakes and Ensley Gammel pitched their respective teams into the ASA 18-Gold National Championships Final Four last week in Oklahoma City.
The 64-team tournament concluded on Sunday.
Gammel, a Centennial High graduate who will be a freshman softball player at the University of Florida starting in the fall, pitched 35 innings during the eight-day tournament and helped the Worth Firecrackers from Huntington Beach place third with an 8-2 record.
Oakes, a Stockdale High graduate who will be a sophomore at Fresno State, helped the SoCal Athletics place fourth, also with an 8-2 record. She pitched 41 innings in the tournament.
