Jelmini wins Pac-10 women's discus title

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona State redshirt freshman Anna Jelmini, a Shafter High School graduate, won the women's discus at the Pac-10 Track and Field Championships Saturday with a throw of 197 feet, 11 inches.

Jelmini had five successful throws and one foul. Each of her legal throws were better than any other participant in the event.

Jelmini's winning mark came on her final attempt. She had two other throws of more than 192 feet.

Throwers from rival Arizona finished second, third and fourth, respectively. Sophomore Taylor Freeman was the cloest at 177-5, while her teammates Baillie Gibson, 176-0, and Julie Labaonte, 171-8, were the only other throwers to eclipse 170..

On Friday, Jelmini placed fourth in the women's shot with a 50-111/2.
