The Vision Zone Volleyball Club won the U15 bracket at the Junior National Championships in Reno, Nev., this week with a roster made up entirely of local players.
Vision Zone went 11-0 in a 48-team pool, beating Southern California's Club West 25-18, 23-25, 15-6 in the championship.
Liberty sophomore-to-be Haylee Roberts was named the tournament MVP, and her high school teammates Taylor Harris and Kiki Robinson also were named to the all-tournament team.
Other local high schools represented on the team were Garces, Bakersfield, Stockdale and Frontier.
Locals lead soccer club to nationals
The Real SoCal White girls soccer team, coached by Bakersfield's Kristy Walker and manned at forward by Frontier senior-to-be Cami Privett, will play for a national championship late this month.
The U17 team went unbeaten at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Series Far West Regional IV in Albuquerque, N.M., this past week, beating the De Anza Force 92 Blue team from Northern California 1-0 in the final.
Privett and Walker will head to Overland Park, Kan., for the 16-team National Championships from July 20-25.
Two locals add offers
Bakersfield High safety Mercy Maston has added a second scholarship offer from a Pac-10 school, Drillers coach Paul Golla said.
Maston, already with a scholarship offer from Arizona State, was asked for a verbal commitment by UCLA this week.
Also, Liberty lineman Cody Temple picked up another offer, this one from Fresno State. Temple already has been asked by Washington State, Nevada and San Jose State.
