Frontier junior Matt Darr has said that playing football for Southern Cal would be like a dream come true.

The dream's on the table.

Darr was offered a scholarship to punt at USC when he visited campus earlier this month, he said this week.

"It was great," Darr said. "They treated me real well, and it was an honor to be down there and be offered a scholarship."

Here's the catch: Darr, who also played linebacker for Frontier and leads the Central Section in both the shot put and discus, has nine Division I scholarship offers -- eight from BCS schools, including storied programs like Alabama and Louisiana State and USC's Pac-10 neighbor, Arizona State.

The other offers are from Iowa State, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Purdue and Texas-El Paso.

Darr, rated the nation's top punter in the class of 2010 by Chris Sailer Kicking, said he's not ready to make a decision.

"Not right now," he said. "Probably USC, along with Arizona State, is my top choice, but as far as decision-making, I'm not sure yet."

North's Peterson commits to West Point

North High junior shortstop Brent Peterson verbally committed to play baseball for the U.S. Army Academy last week.

Peterson's mother, Holly Peterson, said UCLA, Fresno State, Maryland, Baylor and Arizona had also shown interest.

Peterson is batting .485 for the Stars this year after transferring from Bakersfield Christian.

He has 10 doubles, two home runs, 14 RBIs and 13 stolen bases.

The camp will be rescheduled for a later date.

Historic victory in swimming for Blades

When East High beat Highland 102-75 in a girls swimming dual Friday, it wasn't just another SEYL victory.

It was the Blades' first victory over the Scots in the sport since Highland opened in 1970.
