The girls Optional gymnastics team from American Kids Sports Center had a successful meet over the weekend at UCLA. In the Level 7, (age 11), Leah Salcido was 9th on vault, 6th on bars, first on beam, 5th on floor and 3rd all-around (36.650). Haylee McDonnell was 6th on beam, 8th on floor and 8th all-around (35.300). In the Level 7, ages 12-13, Savannah Solano took 5th on vault, 9th on bars, 10th all-around (34.150). In Level 7, ages 14-and-older, Cody Janns was 10th on vault, 5th on bars, 1st on beam, 7th on floor and 3rd all-around (34.500). The Level 7s took 3rd as a team. Level 8, age 12, Kayla Cross was 7th on beam, with an all-around of 34.800. Arianna Bush took 6th on vault, 3rd on bars, 6th on beam, 3rd on floor and won all-around (36.900).
American Cheer, the competitive cheer program of American Kids Sports Center, swept national titles in all of its divisions at the USA All-star Nationals in Las Vegas at the JAMZ All-Star Cheerleading National Championships. American Cheer Flyers took first in Large Senior Semi-Limited Coed Level 5 and will be attending the Cheerleading Worlds in April at Disney World in Orlando, Fla. American Cheer Blue took 1st place in the Large Junior Level. Red took 1st place in Mini Level 1. American Cheer White won in Large Youth Level 2 and American Cheer Silver won Large Senior Level 2. Coaches are Jennifer Dunn, Jessica Rupe, Michael Chow, Phillip Collin, Krista Rhodes, Ashley Pazzi.
Jillian Jo Medina, 11 of Han's Taekwondo Academy in Bakersfield, earned bronze in the age 12-13 black belt light weight sparring division division at the recent 2010 U.S. Open in Las Vegas. She defeated Alexa Lowe of Oregon and Alexius Thomas of Missouri before being beaten by gold medalist Constance Young of Hawaii faced opponents from Oregon, Missouri, and Hawaii in her first U.S. Open. Jillian is looking forward to competing again next year. The results of the competition are below:
The 12U Bakersfieled Heat won the Southwest President's Day Tournament Feb. 13-14, outscoring opponents 59-8. The Heat has been undefeated in their last two tournaments. Chase Stebbins hit a game-winning, walk-off home run during the first game. Other Heat players: Ryan Darbee, Curtis Brown, Konner Dodge, Jake James, Jacob McGreagor, Austin Eknouian, Zach Williams, Jacob Sanchez, Ben Davis, Luke Ming, and Tyler Smith. Coaches are Robert Smith, Bryan James and Bill Darbee.

Track and field
Team RAW Track and Field Club is hosting pre-season registration for youth athletes in grades 4th thru 8th. Current preseason practices are 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Club competes in Southern California meets on Saturdays beginning this month and ending in middle April. The purpose for the pre-season activities is to provide athletes with proper conditioning and participation in USATF sanctioned meets so that they are event ready when the NOR season begins.
