Girls cross country
Runner of the Year
Sarah Baker, sr, Bakersfield
A career in which Baker never lost a dual meet or a league race culminated with a dominating victory at the Kern County Championships (17:46) and the best local time at the Central Section meet (19:26). That put her 12th in Division I, one spot away from qualifying for state.
First team
Nicolette Aldape, soph, Shafter
Her 19:32 at the Central Section Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno gave her the individual Division III title and propelled the Generals to a team title. She also finished third (18:51) at the county meet.
Tori Blackmon, soph, Stockdale
A key component of Stockdale's SWYL and county champions, Blackmon was all-SWYL, finished fifth (18:57) at the county and had the fourth-best local time at the state meet (19:44).
Tijerra Lynch, sr, Ridgeview
Last year's Runner of the Year battled a thigh injury all year but still finished second at the county meet (18:17) and helped the Wolf Pack finish second in the section and reach state, where her 19:35 was the second-best local time.
Amber Nelson, sr, Stockdale
The senior leader on the Mustangs' young squad finished second in the SWYL to Baker, then ran 19:50 at the section meet and led the Mustangs with a 19:42 at state.
Sydney Roman, soph, East
Another sensational sophomore, Roman apparently won the SEYL race before she was disqualified for a minor uniform violation. She sat out the county race, but her section (19:30) and state (19:06) times at Woodward were the best local non-Baker times at each event.
Cambria Tudor, soph, Shafter
She battled injuries but recovered to place fourth at the county (18:55) and third at the section (19:38) for the D-III champions. Then she had the Generals' best time at state, a 20:09.
