The Washington Middle School Lady Hornets volleyball team webt undefeated in the Bakersfield City School District play. The team was coached by Jonathan Freehling. The players, listed alphabetically: Raeleen Acosta, Cyrstal Castro, Desiree Escobedo, Yasmin Fletcher, Dora Garcia, Sophia Gonzalez, Damaris Gonzalez, Jasmine Jefferson, Iatana Millar, Mary Rivera, Irene Gonzalez, Danielle Vargas, and Nina Zamudio.
Bakersfield Gunners U12 Boys accomplished two feats last weekend: They won their Coast League Bracket, and they will be advancing to the round of 32 in the entire U12 Coast League System. There are approximately 150 teams in the U12 boys Coast Soccer League, which is considered one of the most competitive leagues in the nation. The Tehachapi Bombers won the GBA girls softball 16U league and tournament, rolling up an 11-0 record.

The Bakersfield Gunners Girls U17 soccer team won the San Diego Nomads Thanksgiving Soccer Tournament, only being scored on twice all tournament. Players: Coach Brandon Hearron, Gabby Lerma, Tabby Dickson, Halle Meadows, Andrea Bersentes, Delani Curtis, Miranda Standridge, Caitlyn Wilger, Alexis Bailey, Sabrina Spink, Laura Collignon, Amanda Bennett, Gabby Giuliano, Ashley Sanchez, Riley Stevenson, Alyson DeLaRosa and Coach Brian Walker.
Michael E. Susank, vice principal at Garces High School, was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at his alma mater, Claremont McKenna College, on November 14. During his four years at the college, Susank dominated the shot put, discus and hammer throw, winning seven league titles. The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference voted him Athlete of the Year in 1993 and 1994, one of only three males to win the award twice. Upon graduation in 1994, he held school records in the hammer (204-10), discus (162-0) and shot (53-5). Susank was a three-time All-American in the NCAA Division III hammer throw. He took second in the event in 1992 and 1993 and first in 1994. Claremont McKenna College, established in 1946, is an independent liberal arts college with a curricular emphasis on economics, government and public affairs. Its athletic team consists of students from Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, and Scripps College, each of which is part of the seven-college community known as The Claremont Colleges.
