The first Central Section titles of the school year will be handed out today, one in Tulare and one in Bakersfield.
First, the section's team girls golf championships at Tulare Golf Course tee off at 10 a.m. Frontier, Stockdale and Garces will compete from the South Area.
Frontier shot a school record 395 to win the area tournament and is a favorite to win the section's Division II crown and to challenge for the overall championship. That 395 was the second-lowest qualifying score in the section and appeared to be close to the section record of 391. But the same day, Clovis West lowered its own record with a 378 to win the North Area.
At 4 p.m., the girls tennis playoffs continue. Bakersfield Christian will host Fowler for the Division V championship. Six-time defending Division I champion Stockdale visits top seed Clovis-Buchanan, Garces hosts Frontier at Bakersfield College in a Division II semifinal, and Tehachapi is at home against Clovis North in the Division III semis.
