Former NBA player Winston Crite, longtime Nevada high school football coach Joe Sellers, former distance running star Rick Hitchcock and the late Jimmie Icardo, a longtime booster of Cal State Bakersfield athletics, will be inducted into the Bob Elias Kern County Sports Hall of Fame in February.
Crite played two seasons with the Phoenix Suns and also played for teams in Australia, Italy, Spain and France. A South High graduate, Crite played at Texas A&M, where he remains the school record-holder in blocked shots and is second in scoring and rebounds.
Sellers, born and raised in Bakersfield and an East High graduate, played football at the University of Nevada then began a stellar football coaching career at Reno's Wooster High, where he went 214-37-7 in 27 seasons. He has won numerous coaching honors and is in the Nevada Sports and National Coaches Association halls of fame.
Hitchcock, a former standout at North High and Bakersfield College, was an All-American at Kansas State, where he joined three teammates to set the world record in the distance medley relay with a time of 9:31.6. He also competed professionally with the International Track Association.
Icardo's involvement at CSUB dates to the college's opening in 1970. He and his wife, Marjorie made a multi-million-dollar gift to CSUB and the university named the Icardo Center in their honor.
The annual Elias Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Feb.18. A luncheon honoring the inductees will be held at Rabobank Arena on Dec. 10.
