DELANO -- The Delano Tigers scored 16 points off three Highland turnovers Friday on their way to a 23-6 victory in the firts round of the Central Section Division III playoffs.

Delano's Juan Rivera scored the first touchdown of the night on a 1 yard run after an early Highland fumble.

Quarterback Joshua Garcia took over in the second quarter, scoring on a 37-yard run on his way to a 119-yard, two-touchdown rushing performance.

The key to the victory for Delano (9-2) was its ground game as five running backs combined for 47 carries and 255 yards. Marcus Avellanoza ran for 59 yards and Martin del Campo ran for 54.

The Tigers outgained the Scots by 191 yards.

The Delano defense put the clamps on the Scotsmen (2-10), allowing only 12 yards of total offense in the second half and 116 for the game.

The Tigers' defense forced a late safety for the exclamation point on the playoff win.

Highland's wrecking ball on defense, John Oglesby, made his presence felt all night with a sack, fumble recovery, and onside kick recovery.
