Trey Johnson scored 11 of his game-high 24 points from the free-throw line as the Bakersfield Jam beat the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 99-93 on Saturday night in McAllen, Texas.
The Jam (7-6) climbed back above .500 and avoided a three-game skid by holding off the Vipers (6-5) in the fourth quarter.
Marqus Blakely added 19 points and 13 rebounds for Bakersfield, which held a 51-44 advantage on the glass.
Patrick Sullivan scored 21 points to lead five Rio Grande Valley players in double figures.
The Jam returns to action Dec. 28 at home against the New Mexico Thunderbirds.
