Mowing through the opposition is nothing new to Mackenzie Oakes.

The former Stockdale High pitcher has tossed more no-hitters then she can remember en route to garnering Californian player of the year, league MVP honors for the Mustangs.

Saturday morning the Fresno State sophomore took her dominance to a new level -- a perfect game -- retiring all 21 batters she faced in a 3-0 victory over Georgetown in the second game of the Bayer CropScience Classic in Fresno.

"I was a little more focused in that game," said Oakes, who tossed a no-hitter earlier this season. "I was jumping out ahead of the batters and my defense played great."

With her best pitch, a "down ball" playing havoc to the Hoya batters, Oakes induced 13 groundouts. She also had five strikeouts to improve to 6-3 and lowered her ERA to 2.35 in 532/3 innings this season.

"I had good control of all my pitches," Oakes said. " I was able to throw it whereever I wanted to."

For the week, Oakes was 2-0 in her last 172/3 innings and was named MVP of the tournament at Western Athletic Conference pitcher of the week. She tossed a one-hitter in a 10-0 , five-inning win Tuesday over Princeton.

"It's a really big accomplishment for me, but I don't want to stop at that," said Oakes, a mass communication/journalism major, of the perfect game. "I just want to keep working to get better."
