Liberty 34, Golden Valley 0

After a sluggish first quarter, the Patriots (4-3, 3-0 Southeast Yosemite League) put up 20 unanswered points in the second quarter to help lead them to a shutout over the host Bulldogs.

Early in the second quarter, an interception by Liberty's Ross Hough led to a Brady Burk 66-yard touchdown catch from Patriot quarterback Dillon Meadows.

"Meadows is getting better week by week," said Liberty coach Tony Mills. "He makes a lot of plays with his legs. It's a bonus when he can make plays with his arm."

Meadows rushed 55 yards for the first of two late quarter touchdowns With 2:30 left in the half . A Golden Valley fumble on its 10-yard line with just over 22 seconds left in the half to set up a 5-yard Hough touchdown reception for a 20-0 at the half.

"We did a great job on defense," said Mills. "We were able to get our offense going in the second quarter. It was our best quarter of the year."

Meadows finished with 91 yards passing and 83 yards rushing. Both Zach Vasquez and Cameron Carroll had second-half touchdowns when the game was already out of reach for the Bulldogs. Carson Moyer added 92 rushing yards. -- Phillip Barnett

Tehachapi 40, Bak. Chr. 12

TEHACHAPI -- Jesse Olofson ran wild for the Warriors early, orchestrating a punishing ground game that led to 246 yards and four touchdowns.

Tehachapi (6-1 overall) blazed to a 34-0 halftime lead, finishing the night with 401 yards overall without a single pass attempt.

"The coaches really put it in our heads this week about coming out ready to go," said Olofson. "We wanted to come out ready to play on a high level."

Complimenting Olofson in the Warrior wing-t attack was Michael Lowder, carrying for 76 yards and a touchdown and Phil Rhodes rushing for 66 yards and a score.

For the Eagles, Basil Ike scored on a 91-yard kickoff return while Cody Ford led all receivers with six catches for 39 yards. -- Tom Shea

Mira Monte 28, Independence 27

Independence quarterback Tyler Schilhabel's two-point conversion pass fell incomplete as Mira Monte won the first varsity meeting of Bakersfield's new schools.

The Falcons (3-4, 2-1 South Central Sequoia League) came within one point with 1:46 left on a 16-yard Schilhabel touchdown pass to junior Tyler Glasgow. Instead of going for the tie, Independence coach Sean McKeown opted to go for the win.

Mira Monte (3-4, 3-0) running back Timothy Harris carried the ball 30 times for 190 yards and scored the eventual game-winner. -- Mark Nessia

Kern Valley 33, Desert 6

LAKE ISABELLA -- Warren Pappas had two 7-yard touchdown runs and also caught a 74-yard TD pass to lead the Broncs to a High Desert League victory.

Pappas finished with 114 rushing yards on eight carries and Mark Eisenhauer had a 7-yard TD run and also set up a fourth-quarter field goal with a 54-yard run for the Broncs (6-1, 2-0).

Delano 64, Granite Hills 6

PORTERVILLE -- The Tigers held the Grizzlies' ground game to minus-17 yards and a single first down and improved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the East Yosemite League.

Ross Rodarte led Delano with seven sacks and Delano rolled up 415 yards in total offense, including 291 on the ground. Jose Rivera ran for first-half TDs of 5 and 15 yards as the Tigers rolled to a 43-0 lead. Victor Anaya caught four passes for 73 yards and a touchdown for Delano.

Shafter 23, Arvin 19

ARVIN -- Ricardo Castro scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the final minute, and the Generals (2-5, 1-1 South Sequoia League) stopped Arvin at the Generals' 20-yard line in the final seconds.

Shafter's Fernando Saucedo ran for 155 yards. Christian Lopez led Arvin (1-6, 0-2 SSL) with 134 rushing yards.

Shafter's Fernando Tejeda had a 42-yard field goal to give the Generals a 16-7 lead in the third period.

Chavez 46, Monache 27

DELANO -- Peter Markham rushed for 188 yards and Ernesto Marquez ran for 124 for the Titans (5-3, 2-2 East Yosemite League). Noel Gomez returned an interception 58 yards for a TD in the third quarter to help seal the victory.

Frazier Mtn. 55, Rosamond 28

Mike Morgan completed 16 passes for 293 yards and four touchdowns for Frazier Mountain (6-1, and 2-0 High Desert League). Robert Burns ran for three touchdowns for the Falcons and finished the night with 133 yards on 13 carries.

Lighthouse Chr. 46, Alpaugh 0

Justin Newton had a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown and recovered a fumble for the host Guardians and Marty Martinez returned a blocked punt for a touchdown for the Lighthouse (3-4 overall, 2-1 Central Sierra League).
