Setser's Wolf Pack made late surge

It was the middle of a long track and field season, and Ridgeview's dream was under attack.
Injuries, apathy, discipline and more injuries were threatening to derail what had started as a promising track season for the Wolf Pack and its talented group of sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers.
Adam Setser is The Californian's Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year because he was able to do something about it.
"One of the things I reminded them of was that it's a long season," Setser said. "We had been out there since February, some since January. I told them, 'You've got to realize the middle of the season does drag. You're tired, but pretty soon practices will be lighter and easier. Keep your eye on the prize, because that's what we're here for."
Sure enough, things came together.
Johnny Carter returned from various injuries to dominate the section in the triple jump. Several sprinters came back and shored up the team's relay teams. Jerrid Lewis kept dropping time in the 800 meters and wound up a section champion.
Ridgeview won the SWYL boys title and won the race for second in the section behind dominant Clovis-Buchanan.
"It was the best year ever for me," Setser said. "I really couldn't ask for much more."
