After watching Chad Pollard play as a senior at Liberty High, Mark Speckman knew he had his man.
As the head coach at Division III Willamette University in Salem Oregon, Speckman figured Pollard's versatility would be perfect for his fly offense.
Unfortunately for Speckman, Pollard opted to go to Bakersfield College. But after a year with the Renegades, Pollard signed with Willamette and the results have been as his coach expected.
"He touches the ball quite a bit," Speckman said. "He's a really versatile athlete."
Pollard was named second-team all-Northwest Conference after gaining 590 yards and scoring six touchdowns at the "sweeper position" for the Bearcats (8-2), who finished their season ranked 20th in the NCAA Division III poll.
"That's a guy you look all over the place for," said Speckman of Pollard, who had 311 yards rushing and 279 receiving. "That position (he plays) is kind of a hybrid position. It's not an easy thing to learn and he's a pretty bright kid and he picked it up fast and was a real contributor for us this year."
