Bakersfield is known for a lot of things, but developing young hockey players isn't typically one of them. But thanks to Liberty High graduate Kristi Kehoe that might change.
As a junior forward at Northeastern, Kehoe continues to put Kern County hockey on the map.
"Being from California and especially Bakersfield, people used see me and say' wait you're from where?' because Bakersfield is more of a country town," Kehoe said. "But it's to the point now where people say whatever and it is what it is."
Kehoe's play the past few season has helped in her transition to East Coast hockey.
"My role on the team has been a goal scorer and passer," Kehoe said. "I'm not a selfish player. As long as we're winning the games it doesn't matter who gets the points. I just enjoy seeing the plays happen."
After leading the Huskies (7-1-1) in scoring her first two years, Kehoe has four goals and four assists this season.
"Our team is doing really awesome," Kehoe said. "We're off to a pretty great start so I'm pretty excited about what's going to come."
