BC needed to place in the top four in the team standings to advance into next week's state championships. The Renegades wound up with a 34-over-par 754, 13 shots behind three teams that tied for the final qualifying spots.

BC freshman Josh Barnes qualified as an individual for the state meet, tying for sixth overall with a 1-under 143.

Bryce Holloway of BC placed 14th with a 2-over 146. He needed to shoot a 145 to force a playoff for the final individual qualifying spot.

The Renegades were devastated by a back spasms suffered by Kirk Harper en route to San Jacinto.

BC coach Larry Cook called Harper one of the Renegades' hottest players who had a bogey-free practice round on Saturday. But he finished with a 20-over-par 164 on Monday.

"He played, but he struggled just to make it onto the course," Cook said. "He did a good job just playing two rounds of golf."

That injury "might have rattled our cage a little bit," Cook said.

Moorpark, which placed fifth in the Western State Conference tournament hosted by BC a week ago and is ranked 10th in Southern California, won the tournament with a 15-over 735. Second-ranked Canyons, No. 3 Cypress and No. 4 Saddleback all shot 21-over 741s to earn the other team berths for the state meet.

BC's other players were Danny Hoff, who tied for 22nd with a 5-over 149; Tony Denesha, who tied for 51st with a 12-over 156; and David Morse, who tied for 65th with a 16-over 160.
