VISALIA — Tommy Hunter pitched effectively for six-plus innings and the Bakersfield Blaze pounded out 16 hits in an 8-3 victory over the Visalia Oaks on Sunday at Recreation Park.

Hunter (4-3) limited the Oaks to three runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out seven in 62⁄3 innings,
J.T. Restko and Chris Gradoville each went 3-for-5 for Bakersfield. Marcus Lemon added a two-run home run in the fifth inning, which increased the Blaze lead to 6-3.
Bakersfield is off today before traveling to Modesto to open a three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
DURAN CAPS BC SWIM SEASON WITH STRONG PERFORMANCE AT STATE
MISSION VIEJO — Allison Duran finished fourth in the 100 backstroke at 60.7 seconds Saturday for Bakersfield College at the State Swimming Championships at Saddleback College.
Duran was 11th in the 200 individual medley at 2:19.17. She placed second in the 50 back, but was disqualified for a 15-meter violation.
Diver Mary Bryant finished 11th on the 3-meter board and 12th on the 1-meter as the BC women took 21st out of 48 teams.
The men’s team finished 22nd out of 47 schools.
Matt Moon was fifth in the 100 breast (58.08) and 11th in the 200 breast (2:11.15). Jordan Urmston finished 12th in the 200 back (2:00.48) and 14th in the 100 back (54.74).
