The Bakersfield Jam won't have to do the impossible when it plays the second-seeded Utah Flash in a single-elimination playoff game 6 p.m. Wednesday, just the improbable.

The Jam, the No. 8 seed, lost five of its last six regular season games and are 2-4 against the Flash this season. Both wins came in December before NBA assignees Morris Almond and Kosta Koufos were added to the Flash roster.

The Flash, the West Division Champions, opted to play the Jam after top seeded Southwest Division champion Colorado 14ers selected the Erie BayHawks as their opponent in the first round.

For the first time, the three division champions, along with the wild-card team with the best regular season record, had the opportunity to select their first round opponent among the four lowest seeded playoff teams.

The Iowa Energy, the Central Division Champion selected the sixth seeded Dakota Wizards, while the fourth seeded Austin Toros, the team with the best overall regular season record of the five wild cards, will face the fifth seeded Idaho Stampede in a re-match of the 2008 NBA D-League Finals.

The first and second rounds of the 2009 NBA D-League playoffs will be single elimination, while the Finals will be a best-of-three series.
