BOISE, Idaho -- The Bakersfield Jam figured it was cornered, that its final regular-season game Friday against the Idaho Stampede was a must-win situation. Even Vance Palm, the team's vice president of communications, said as much.

Well, the Jam (26-24) lost its finale 112-103, but got some unexpected help, Palm said -- a 114-104 victory by the Iowa Energy over the Sioux Falls Skyforce (24-25), a result that clinched Bakersfield's first playoff berth in its three-year existence. Bakersfield will learn its first-round playoff foe and game date on Sunday.

Center Lance Allred scored 24 points Friday to lead Idaho to its second victory over the Jam in three days.

Bakersfield led 89-85 after three quarters but suffered through an 0-for-10 streak from the field in the final quarter, and was outscored 27-14.

Trey Johnson led the Jam with 24 points, and Mateen Cleaves had 22 points.
