Local report: Tarver leads BC women in WSC opener

SANTA MONICA -- Madison Tarver finished with 21 points and 21 rebounds to lead the Bakersfield College women's basketball team to a 80-58 victory over Santa Monica College in the Western State Conference opener.
Jausecca Cockerel had another great all-around game for the Renegades with 10 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, four steals and two blocks.
BC (8-5, 1-0 WSC) will host Glendale on Saturday at 5 p.m.
JC men's basketball
SANTA MONICA -- Conroy Lester had a team-high 12 points and Antonio Bates added 10 points and eight rebounds, but Bakersfield College lost its Western State Conference opener, 68-55 to Santa Monica College.
Gerald Bates also scored 10 for the Renegades (6-10, 0-1 WSC), who committed 25 turnovers.
Bakersfield will host Glendale on Saturday at 7 p.m.
NBA D-League
EL SEGUNDO -- The Bakersfield Jam came up short against the Los Angeles D-Fenders, losing 104-94.
The game included 11 lead changes and 11 ties.
With the game tied at 81, Malcolm Thomas scored to a lay-up with 7:49 left in the game to give the D-Fenders the lead for good.
Despite a 10-point fourth quarter from Jeremy Wise, Los Angeles outscored the Jam 23-13 to finish the quarter.
Wise finished with 17 points, four rebounds and five assists. Jeremy Hazell contributed 14 points off the bench and Osiris Eldridge had 13. Juan Pattillo added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Solomon Alabi, who was assigned to Bakersfield by the Toronto Raptors prior to the game, had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
