The Bakersfield Jam made an effort to strengthen its offense Wednesday, acquiring guard Alpha Bangura from the Grand Valley Vipers for guard Jeff Trepagnier.
Another dose of good news for the Jam's offense is the return of Trey Johnson from his second call-up to the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers.
In 25 games with the Jam, Johnson has averaged 20.1 points.
In 26 games with the Vipers, Bangura, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound guard out of St. John's, averaged 18.9 points.
Bangura recently returned after being out with tendonitis. He averaged 10.1 points and 3.5 rebounds in his three seasons at St. John's.
"The biggest advantage with Alpha is that he's a veteran, a player who can lead on the floor and of course, anytime you add the eighth leading scorer in your league to the roster you certainly hope that comes with the package," Jam coach Scott Roth said.
Trepagnier averaged 10.9 ppg. with the Jam.
Free parking for fans
The Jam announced that for the remainder of the season, fans will be able to park for free in the four-story structure west of Rabobank Arena. Team sponsor Premier Equipment Rentals will be covering the parking costs for all vehicles at Jam home games.
The action taken by Jam ownership and Premier was an effort to make it more affordable to attend a game.
The team next plays at 4 p.m. Sunday at Rabobank Arena against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
