Jam's Byars, Johnson earn all D-League recognition

Guard Trey Johnson and swing man Derrick Byars, the top two scorers for the Jam this season, have been selected to the All-NBA D-League second team, the league announced Monday.

Johnson, averages 20.4 points and 4.5 assists for the Jam, who are in third place in the D-League's West Division at 26-22.

Byars, a 6-foot-7 24-year-old out of Vanderbilt, averages 18.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game and is shooting over 48 percent from the field. He also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers on a pair of 10-day contracts this season.

Players were voted upon by the league's 16 head coaches.

First team selections were guards Blake Ahearn (Dakota) and Will Conroy (Albuquerque), forwards Erik Daniels (Erie) and Marcus Williams (Austin) and center Courtney Sims (Iowa).

Other second team picks were: guard James White (Anaheim), forward Josh Davis (Colorado) and center Chris Hunter (Fort Wayne).

The Jam next plays at 6 p.m. Wednesday at second-place Idaho (29-18). Bakersfield can clinch a playoff berth with a win.

Jam forward Nick Lewis (15.4 ppg, 7.3 rpg) was an honorable mention pick.
