College roundup: Baker powers CSUB attack in volleyball sweep

Alysia Baker was nearly perfect Sunday afternoon as the Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team rolled to a 25-14, 25-22, 25-13 sweep of Seattle University in the Icardo Center.
Baker put down 12 kills on 13 swings for a .923 attack percentage. Lindy DeGeare led CSUB (12-13) with 13 kills. Barbie Unfried chipped in seven kills and Kayla Williamson had 11 digs.
The Roadrunners and Redhawks conclude their two-match set at 6 p.m. today at CSUB.
MEN'S SOCCER
Robbie Gouk scored back-to-back goals and Omar Heredia added one of his own -- all within a five-minute span -- as the Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team claimed a 3-0 win over Denver in the season's home finale.
The Roadrunners (8-6-2, 3-3-0 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) secured at least a .500 record for the season, the first time they have achieved that feat since joining Division I.
Gouk scored on an assist from Heredia in the 16 minute, then struck again in the 20th minute. Gouk assisted on Heredia's goal in the 22nd minute. CSUB concludes its 2009 season Sunday at Seattle.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Cal State Bakersfield women's soccer team ended its 2009 season with a 1-0 home loss to San Francisco. The Roadrunners (6-11-2) finished the season with a new program record of six NCAA Division I wins.
Alyson Drake scored for the Dons (7-6-5) in the 38th minute off a corner kick.
JC WOMEN'S GOLF
Katherine James and Ellen Krausse tied for second after the first round of the Western State Conference championships at Olivas Links in Ventura. James and Krausse shot 2-over 74, trailing Santa Barbara's Asaka Sim, who ended up at 1-under 71.
BC holds a comfortable lead after posting its second lowest round in school history at 306. The 'Gades, who have already wrapped up the WSC title, shot 301 last Monday at the Links at RiverLakes Ranch. Canyons is second at 331 and Santa Barbara (333) is third.
Dee Ray is fourth at 76 and Stacie Netzer is seventh at 82 for the Renegades.
