College roundup: CSUB transfer sets pool, meet record at USC

LOS ANGELES CHAD MCKENZIE SET A POOL AND MEET RECORD IN THE 100-METER INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY AT THE USC INVITATIONAL SATURDAY, ONE OF MANY HIGHLIGHT PERFORMANCES DURING THE SEASON OPENING MEET FOR THE CSUB MEN'S SWIM TEAM.
THE JUNIOR TRANSFER FROM LIMESTONE (GAFFNEY, S.C.) COLLEGE TOUCHED THE WALL IN 59.06, OUTREACHING SECOND PLACE FINISHER USC'S JAMES MARTIN, WHO FINISHED IN 59.46.
OTHER STRONG MARKS FOR THE ROADRUNNERS DURING THE SHORT COURSE EVENTS INCLUDED A THIRD PLACE 1:54.80 MARK BY SOPHOMORE KEENAN NATYZAK IN THE 200-METER FREESTYLE. JUNIOR LUKA LESKUR WAS SECOND IN THE 100-METER BACKSTROKE, FINISHING IN 57.87, WHILE MCKENZIE ALSO EARNED A 1:04.62, SECOND PLACE FINISH IN THE 100 METER BREASTSTROKE.
COMPETING HEAD-TO-HEAD AGAINST USC AND CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE, THE 'RUNNERS TOOK A 111-55 WIN OVER THE MATADORS AND A 95-70 LOSS TO THE NATIONALLY RANKED TROJANS.
CSUB cross country
Juniors Arianna Celis and Casey Glassey eached finished in the top 25 at UC San Diego Triton XC Classic in La Jolla. Celis and Glassey finished 17th and 25th, respectively, in the season's second 6K race. Celis ran a 23:14.3 while Glassey clocked in at 23:43.0.
The Roadrunners placed eighth of 13 teams in a highly competitive field. Central Arizona captured the team and individual title as Rose Tanui ran a 21:38.0.
CSUB men's soccer
The Roadrunners remained undefeated at home in five matches after a hard fought double overtime draw against Cal Poly at Main Soccer Field.
CSUB (5-3-2) had a 16-6 shot advantage but could not finish a shot.
CSUB women's tennis
Former Stockdale High standout Julie Hutton was one of three CSUB freshmen to win her collegiate debut on the first day of the Cal State Fullerton Intercollgiates.
Hutton earned a 7-5, 6-0 win over Lani Agsalud of Cal State Fullerton. Gabriela Horton settled down after a nail-biter in her first set to take care of Cal State L.A.'s Joyce Librando 7-6, 6-2, and Julian Mannix dispatched Katie Nichols of Fullerton 6-2 and 7-5.
All three lost their second-round matches and will compete in the consolation rounds.
JC wrestling
Bakersfield College wrestlers A.J. Smith and Brad Carls won the 174- and 197-pound divisions at the West Valley Tournament on Saturday in Saratoga.
The Renegades finished 7th out of 20 schools as a team. Bryce Horton finshed fourth in the 157-pound division.
