CSUB roundup: Shirk's goal gives women's soccer team 1-1 draw

Freshman Tyler Shirk scored her first collegiate goal in the 50th minute Friday to help the Cal State Bakersfield women's soccer team rally for a 1-1 tie with the Eastern Washington at CSUB.
Juniors Jamie Havelin and Veronica Ramos assisted on the second-half score.
Whitney Brannan gave Eastern Washington a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.
CSUB goalkeeper Kym Gause finished with three saves as neither team was able to break through in overtime.
The Roadrunners (0-1-1) put constant pressure on the Eagle defense, outshooting EWU 27-7 on the evening while holding an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.
CSUB continues its homestand Sunday against Loyola Marymount at 7 p.m.
Volleyball team falls in opener
The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball lost its season opener Friday 25-13, 25-13, 25-22 to Drake University (Iowa) at the North Dakota Classic in Grand Forks, N.D.
Junior outside hitter Lindy DeGeare tallie a match-high 11 kills for the Roadrunners. Sophomore Lauren Holderman added a match-high 14 digs.
CSUB will face North Dakota at 10 a.m. PDT and Gonzaga at 3 p.m. PDT today.
