Cal State Bakersfield's wrestling roster just got a lot deeper.

Roadrunner coach Mike Mendoza announced the signings of six wrestlers who bring some impressive credentials into the program.

Aaron "A.C." Brown, projected to compete at 197 pounds, was a three-time CIF Tournament qualifier for Oakdale High School. He earned two appearances in the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters finals and won an SJS title as a senior. Brown also earned All-State honors in football for Oakdale.

Nicholas Cano, from Mountain View-St. Francis High School, was named San Jose Mercury News Wrestler of the Year as a senior after going 39-2 and winning five tournaments, including his first Central Coast Section championship, at 140 pounds.

Cano was a runner-up in the state meet at Rabobank Arena. He ended his prep career with 162 wins (second-most in school history) and a school-record 19 tech falls. Cano likely will wrestle at 141 or 149 pounds.

Reuben Franklin, from Vista Murrietta High School, took fourth in the state at 189 pounds in March, and was third at the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet.

Fabian Garcia was a four-time state placer while at Turlock High School. Garcia, who is projected to wrestle at 125 or 133 pounds, earned a Senior National Championship at 119 pounds after this past high school season.

Frankie Hurtado stays in Bakersfield after qualifying for the CIF Tournament for Liberty High School. Hurtado went 46-6 and was a Bakersfield Californian All-Area selection at heavyweight.

Another heavyweight signed by the Roadrunners was Steven Wood from Lemoore High, who went 48-7 and placed fourth in the state in March. Wood won a West Yosemite League title, was second at the Yosemite Divsional meet and a third at the Central Section Masters.

These signees, along with Bakersfield High graduates Timmy Box, Adam Fierro, Bryce Hammond and Ian Nickell, has been ranked in the top 20 nationally by Intermat (18th) and D1CollegeWrestling.net (19th).

CSUB women's basketball signs 3

The Cal State Bakersfield women's basketball roster grew by three, with the signings of a center, forward and guard.

Tyler Collins, a 6-1 forward, enters the CSUB program from Ramsay High School in Birmingham, Ala. Collins had to sit out her senior season due to a knee injury. As a junior, she helped the Rams to a 22-7 record and a No. 11 ranking in Alabama.

"Tyler is very athletic," CSUB coach Greg McCall said. "She had several SEC schools recruiting her before she was injured. She born here in Bakersfield before her family moved back to Alabama."

Five-foot-5 guard Brooklynn Hinkens, from Auburn-Riverside High School in Lake Tapps, Wash., averaged 13.6 points per game as a senior, pacing Auburn-Riverside (21-5) to a South Puget Sound League North 4A title and a berth in the state tournament. She led the league with 37 3-point goals. As a junior, Hinkens helped the team go undefeated and win a 4A state championship.

"Brooklyn will be a combo guard for us," said McCall. "She can shoot it from deep. She can handle ball and has good court vision good court awareness."

Six-foot-3 center Janae Coffee, a Clovis West graduate who is transferring to CSUB from Long Beach State, will sit out the 2011-12 season as per NCAA transfer rules and will have three years of eligibility remaining. She played in 11 games as a freshman for the 49ers, starting three, and averaging 7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Coffee led Clovis West to four straight Tri-River Athletic Conference championships and three Central Section titles. She was a three-time all-league, all-city, and All-Valley selection. Coffee was All-State as a junior and as a senior after averaging a double-double in both seasons.

"Janae has great inside prescence," McCall said. "She is very strong and is getting stronger every day. Janae has great hands and great footwook. She can pass out of the post and double teams, and score against the double teams."
