Local report: Cockerel leads BC women

Jausecca Cockerel had 27 points, seven assists, 10 rebounds and only one turnover to lead the Bakersfield College women's basketball team to a 76-65 win over L.A. Valley Wednesday night in the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
The win ensures that BC remained in at least a first-place tie in the Western State Conference. The Renegades (14-8, 7-3 WSC) began the day tied with West L.A. and a half-game ahead of Canyons. Those two teams met Wednesday night.
Gabi Morales had seven points and 14 rebounds and Madison Tarver had 15 rebounds. Brittany Smith and Haley Huntington added 14 points each for BC.
JC men's basketball
L.A. Valley's Alex Strauther hit a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to force overtime, and his late 3-pointer was the difference in the Monarchs' 67-65 overtime win over Bakersfield College.
BC (9-16, 3-7 Western State Conference) had a 55-52 lead and the ball with 20 seconds left in regulation but turned it over, setting up Strauther's shot.
Conroy Lester had 23 points and Duncan Schramm added 20 for the Renegades. Strauther and Mike Johnson had 17 each for Valley. Johnson had all of his points in the second half, including five 3s.
Women's basketball
Kristina Santiago had 28 points and 13 rebounds as Cal Poly rolled past CSU Bakersfield 95-78 at the Icardo Center.
Kayla Griffin added 20 points for the Mustangs (10-12), who led 44-24 at halftime.
Ciarra Ford scored 19 points to lead the Roadrunners (4-20). Lauren Carter scored 17 off the bench and Brooklynn Hinkens added 16.
Women's golf
SAN DIEGO -- Freshman Lauren Holrook shot a two-round score of 162 to tie for 11th place at the Super San Diego Women's Collegiate Golf Championships on Monday and Tuesday.
Holbrook, from Liberty High, had an 82 on Monday and 80 on Tuesday to finish six strokes out of first place. CSUB placed 10th out of 19 teams and shot 679.
