'Gades women's soccer earns state playoff spot

The Bakersfield College women's soccer team has qualified for the Southern California playoffs for the third straight season and will travel to San Bernardino Valley College Saturday for a 2 p.m. match.
BC (11-7-2 overall, third-place 9-3-2 in Western State Conference South) is seeded No. 14. San Bernardino Valley (17-0-4) is No. 3. Sixteen teams make the playoffs
CSUB volleyball rallies past Fresno State
Senior setter Barbie Unfried recorded a season-high 55 assists to help the CSUB volleyball team come back from a two-games-to-one-deficit and upend Central Valley rival Fresno State 25-23, 31-33, 19-25, 25-17, 15-9 at the Icardo Center.
Sophomore middle blocker Alysia Baker was the main beneficiary of Unfried's prolific night, putting down a career-high 18 kills. Freshman outside hitter Morgan Pettway added a collegiate-high 13 kills
BC trio at state cross country meet
Three runners from Bakersfield College have qualified as individuals for the California Community College Cross Country Championships that will be held Saturday at Fresno's Woodward Park.
The runners are Francisco Mejia and Robert Quintero from the men's team and Emnet Habebo from the women's team. The women's race starts at 10 a.m. and the men's race begins at 11 a.m.
CSUB men swimmers ranked No. 20
The CSUB men's swimming team is ranked No. 20 in the first CollegeSwimming.com mid-major Division I poll that was announced Tuesday.
Navy leads with 224.1 points. CSUB had 197.2 points.
CSUB had a recruiting class that earned a No. 19 national ranking, and the Roadrunners opened the year with a solid performance at a USC Invitational and then dominated UOP in a dual meet when CSUB placed first in all but two events.
This poll is open to programs that are not members of a BCS conference, Mountain West Conference of Western Athletic Conference, or provide fewer than one-half of the allowable scholarships under NCAA rules.
Renegades sweep Santa Monica
SANTA MONICA Sarah Kurfess had 21 digs and Chelsea Rose had 35 assists as Bakersfield College swept Santa Monica 25-23, 25-10, 25-8 at Santa Monica. Reisa Fessler had 12 kills and Brookey Holmes added 11 for the Renegades (17-5, 10-1 Western State Conference South). Bakersfield will host Glendale on Thursday in their final match at home before the playoffs.
