Cal State Bakersfield's women's basketball team received a bid Monday from the Women's Basketball Invitational, becoming the first CSUB team sport to reach the Division I postseason.
CSUB, in its final year of transition from Division II to Division I, will play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (22-10). The WBI selects 16 teams not chosen for the women's NCAA or NIT fields.
"This is a historic step," CSUB coach Tim La Kose said in a release. "We have worked this entire transition to move from being a top Division II team to a top Division I team, and this is a giant step in the right direction."
CSUB (16-12) is the No. 7 seed in the tournament's West region; Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is No. 2.
Should the Roadrunners win, they would host a second-round game against either Washington or Portland on a date to be determined.
