Cal State Bakersfield senior heavyweight wrestler Mitch Monteiro has been named a late addition to the lineup at the 44th National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic that will be held today at Cal State Fullerton.

Monteiro was 28-9 last season and was the Pac-10 Conference champion at heavyweight. He will face defending national champion and No. 1 ranked heavyweight Mark Ellis from Missouri. Monteiro replaces No. 5-ranked David Zabriskie of Iowa State.

Bakersfield High graduate and defending NCAA champion Jake Varner of Iowa State will also compete, facing Nebraska's Craig Brester in a rematch of the Big 12 Conference finals and NCAA finals last spring. Varner enters as the NCAA's top-ranked 197-pounder and Brester is ranked No. 2.

Cal State Bakersfield has two others competing: 141-pound Elijah Nacita, who will face Fullerton's Adin Duenas; and 197-pound Riley Orozco, who faces UC Davis' Abe Otrambo.
