College roundup: Four BC wrestlers earn WSC first-team honors

Four Bakersfield College wrestlers earned first-team All-Western State Conference honors Saturday as the Renegades finished second at the WSC championships at Gil Bishop Sports Center.
Vince Rivera completed an unbeaten conference season at 133 pounds. Bryce Horton (157), Alvaro Zermeno (165) and Zach Weldon (184) were other first-team selections.
The 'Gades defeated Cuesta 26-16 in the first round and lost to Rio Hondo 25-19 in the second. In round three, BC beat West Hills 28-13.
BC was without the services of top-ranked wrestlers Brad Carls (197) and A.J. Smith (174), who are nursing injuries. BC coach Bill Kalivas hopes to have them back in time for the Southern California Regionals on Dec. 5 at East L.A. College.
VOLLEYBALL
CSUB lost to UC Riverside in four games, 25-21, 22-25, 26-24, 25-19 at the Student Rec Center in Riverside.
Senior setter Barbie Unfried led CSUB with 44 assists, 10 digs and five blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Lindy DeGeare led the Roadrunner attack force with 18 kills and three aces, and sophomore middle blocker Alysia Baker chipped in 10 kills, two aces and five blocks.
DIVING
Senior Victoria Kreutz scored a 232.25 in the finals of the one-meter springboard diving event to claim sixth place at the USC Diving Invitational in Los Angeles.
On the men's side, freshman Bryce Ogden scored 204.65 in the one-meter prelims and 236.05 in the three-meter prelims.
