CSUB MEN'S SOCCER
Alberto Navarro scored one goal in each half for Cal State Bakersfield, but three consecutive first-half strikes and a late second-half goal by San Jose State led to the Roadrunners' first home loss of the season, a 4-2 final.
CSUB is now 6-5-2 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play while the Spartans remained a perfect 3-0-0 in the MPSF and 8-6-1 overall.
A called hand ball in the Spartans' goal box just 1:21 into the match put Navarro on the penalty line for the second consecutive match. The senior calmly slotted the ball left while SJSU goalkeeper Jonathan Lester dove in the opposite direction for an early 1-0 CSUB lead.
Trailing 3-1, a San Jose State foul just outside the left side of the goalbox set up a free kick opportunity for the Roadrunners in the 83rd minute. Javier Barba sent the ball into the mix where Navarro elevated and headed the ball down into the net. The Spartans countered with a goall less than 30 seconds later.
CSUB WOMEN'S SOCCER
Alexandria Ngo scored her first collegiate goal with 38 seconds left in the match Friday to lift Cal State Bakersfield to a 1-0 women's soccer victory over Cal State Northridge.
Ngo's shot sailed into the lower right hand side of the net. Freshman Daisy vazquez picked up her first career point when she was credited with the assist.
CSUB is 5-9-2 while Northridge falls to 8-9-0. It was CSUB's fifth shutout of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Montano, in her first career start, got the shutout. CSUB outshot Northridge 20-6.
