CSUB announces hirings, position changes

It's been a busy week of hiring for Cal State Bakersfield's athletic department.
Four new hires will oversee different aspects of athletics, and some duties have been added for other administrators.
And two assistant coaches for women's soccer have been hired, along with an assistant who will work with men's and women's swimming.
Marcus Brown has been hired as the new senior assistant athletic director for compliance, taking over an area formerly overseen by recently retired Gloria Friedman.
Brown comes to CSUB from Pepperdine, where he served a similar role. He has overseen both NCAA and West Coast Conference compliance issues since 2003.
Keith Ford has been hired as assistant athletic director for game day operations. He spent the last five years as director of fan development and ticket operations at Division I Akron University in Ohio. Prior to that he was assistant AD at Texas-San Antonio and director of ticket operations for the Fresno Grizzlies of the Pacific Coast League.
Ford's responsibilities at CSUB are the sales of individual, season and group tickets, developing and implementing promotions and marketing programs to enhance program visibility and support to increase attendance at CSUB events while overseeing game-day promotion and management.
Brendon Ziegler has been hired as CSUB's first strength and conditioning coach. He spent the last five years at the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Oregon State. He has also served on the strength and conditioning staffs at the University of Hawaii, the University of Wisconsin and the Chicago Bulls.
Tim Statezni, who has worked with the Condors and San Diego Chargers, will be the general manager for Nelligan Sports' Bakersfield market, where he will oversee corporate sales and sponsorships for the Roadrunners.
Associate athletic director Cindy Goodmon will add the responsibilities of senior women's administrator to her duties, which was formerly overseen by Friedman. Goodmon will also supervise women's basketball, softball and men's and women's swimming.
Roger Fessler has a new title: associate athletic director/chief of staff where he will oversee athletic training, strength and conditioning, equipment and a newly signed athletic department apparel deal. Fessler will also oversee volleyball, men's and women's golf, cross country and track.
Karen Langston, the associate athletic director for advancement, will oversee fundraising and major gifts. Langston will supervise women's soccer, wrestling and women's tennis.
Athletic director Jeff Konya will oversee men's basketball and baseball and Mark Mayes, assistant athletic director for special events, will oversee men's soccer and CSUB's baseball facilities.
New assistant coaches hired
John Smith, an assistant coach for CSUB soccer from 1999-2006, has been hired as one of two new assistants for women's soccer.
Leanne Tucker, a four-year letterwinner for the Roadrunners and most recently an assistant coach at Centennial High, has also been hired as a women's soccer assistant.
After leaving CSUB, Smith spent four years as the head coach at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to arriving at CSUB in 1999, Smith played professional soccer in the U.S. and overseas.
Tucker, a defender at CSUB from 2006-10, will be making her collegiate coaching debut.
Chris Hansen, CSUB's director of swimming, has hired Andrew Atzhorn as the lead assistant coach, who will work closely with sprinters on the men's and women's teams.
Previously he was the head assistant coach for Golden West Swim Club under former U.S. Olympic and National Team coach Mark Schubert.
As a swimmer, Atzhorn competed at South Carolina where he qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials and the 2009 World Championship Trials.
Rachel Holm will be a graduate assistant coach for CSUB swimming; Melanie Sloan begins her second season as diving coach; and Nick Cavazos will be CSUB's student-assistant after an injury limited his ability to compete in 2011-12.
