Kernen has named Robinson as CSUB's head assistant coach. Robnson coached with Kernen at Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge and the University of Illinois.

"Jody Robinson is the most important addition to the CSUB baseball program since we began the building process," Kernen said of his program, which plays its inaugural season next spring.

Robinson was the head coach at Loyola Marymount from 1992-96.

"He was my assistant in 1991 at Northridge, our first year of Division I play, so he's been through what we are attempting to achieve here and that will prove to be invaluable to our efforts," Kernen said.

Robinson and Kernen first worked together as assistant coaches at Fullerton in the late 1970s through 1981. Robinson was the head baseball coach at Long Beach City College from 1982-85, then moved to Cerritos College for three years as an assistant. Cerritos won the state title in two of those seasons, 1985 and 1987.

Robinson and Kernen were both assistant coaches in 1988 at Illinois, under former Fullerton coach Augie Garrido. Robinson remained there through 1990, then joined Kernen's staff at Northridge in 1991 before taking over at Loyola Marymount.

"I am very excited to be able to work with Bill again," Robinson said in a release. "There are only a couple of people I would do this for, and this was a situation where I feel like we have the opportunity to start something and build it the right way."

For the past 12 years, Robinson has been a materials, warehouse and production manager at Royal Oak Enterprises in West Plains, Mo.

He graduated from Fullerton in 1981 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education.

He was an outfielder and third baseman at Fullerton in 1975-76 and earned first-team All-Pacific Coast Athletic Association honors both years.

Robinson will begin his duties at CSUB on Sept. 8.
