Guyer dazzles in debut with overtime goal

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Newcomer Gino Guyer scored at the 2:32 mark of overtime to lift the Bakersfield Condors to a 3-2 victory over the Alaska Aces on Saturday night.

John de Gray had a goal and an assist and goaltender Justin Pogge made 29 saves to give the Condors their third straight win.

The first period saw four goals scored, with each team tallying two. De Gray recorded the game's first goal just 28 seconds in. Guyer, playing in his first game with the Condors registered the only assist.

At 3:58 of the period, Alaska evened the score at one on a shorthanded goal by Scott Burt. The Condors went up 2-1 on Kyle Calder's third goal of the season with 7:56 gone by in the first period. De Gray and forward Andrew Ianiero picked up the assists.

Alaska's Curtis Fraser made it 2-2 with 9:20 remaining in the opening frame.

The second period provided less offense. Neither team found the back of the net, with Alaska out-shooting the Condors 11-8 in the middle frame.

In the third period, Bakersfield held a 14-7 shot advantage, but was unable to solve Aces goaltender Scott Reid.

On the Condors' only shot of the overtime at 2:32, Guyer scored with a wrist shot while on a 2-on-1. Defenseman Mark Mitera earned his first assist in a Condors uniform on the play.

Bakersfield outshot Alaska 39-31 in the game.

The Condors and Aces meet again today at 8:15 p.m.

Bakersfield returns home for a 10:30 a.m. game Wednesday against Ontario.
