Dan Sexton's breakout weekend against the Alaska Aces -- 5 goals and 4 assists -- got plenty of notice and earned him a promotion to the Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League.
The Anaheim Ducks assigned the speedy rookie winger to Manitoba on Tuesday and Sexton should be in the lineup today as the Moose play the Rockford IceHogs in Rockford, Ill.
David McNab, senior vice of hockey operations for Anaheim, watched the Condors complete the three-game sweep of the Aces on Sunday and said several AHL teams called the Ducks on Monday with interest in Sexton.
Sexton started the season with San Antonio in the AHL but the Ducks assigned him to Bakersfield after the Phoenix Coyotes-controlled team left Sexton sitting in the stands for five games.
Sexton, 22, has played in 18 games with the Condors and leads the team in goals (13), assists (13), points (26), game-winning goals (3) and shorthanded goals (2). He ranks second in the league in goals, tied for ninth in assists and fourth in points. He is the rookie leader in goals and second in assists and points.
He was also named ECHL player of the week, the first such honor for a Condor this season.
"It's well deserved," Condors coach Marty Raymond said of Sexton getting a shot in the AHL. "He's done everything well. He's a good kid and worked hard."
