The word is getting out and more and more bowlers are showing up to compete and vie for a secured spot in the Sept. 27-28 Don Glover Masters Scratch tournament at AMF Southwest Lanes.
Saturday was the April House Spot Roll-Off event for the Glover tournament and it drew some pretty awesome bowlers, including last year's second place Glover Masters winner Andre Eubanks from Los Angeles. He decided to make the trip to Bakersfield to see if he could secure a spot this year and that he did! Here are the results:
1st - Andre Eubanks, Los Angeles (,1461) - won spot; 2nd, Mike Hardwick (1,393); 3rd, Eric Seifert (1,335); 4th, Jon Mayo (1,320).
Sidepots to this event paid $9 and the winners were Tim Allen, Games 1 & 2, (246) (243); Andre Eubanks, Game 3 (255); Mike Hardwick, Game 4 (279); Mike Mayo, Game 5 (257); and Mike Hardwick, Game 6 (258).
Upcoming House-Spot Roll-Offs at AMF Southwest Lanes are scheduled for 2 p.m. on the following dates: May 31, Jun. 21, Jul. 26, Aug. 30 and Sept. 20. For more information, contact Leon Stroope at (661) 834-4976.
ANNUAL GEUSBC ADULT AWARDS BANQUET HONORS LOCAL BOWLERS
The annual Golden Empire United States Bowling Congress Adult Awards Banquet was held April 19 at the Eagles Aerie Hall downtown. More than 100 bowlers, their families and guests attended.
The event's theme this year was a Hawaiian Luau. Special presentations were given to the two newest Bakersfield Hall of Fame inductees, Jane Lokey for meritorious service and Bill Kofahl for superior performance. Also honored was our 2008 GEUSBC scholarship recipient Tony Rose.
Other awards were given to all the Bowlers to Veterans Link tournament division winners, the Mixed City tournament winners, and the Women's and Men's city tournament winners.

PASSINGS
On Thursday, April 17, we lost Linda Hubbell-Williams who had been bowling for many years on the Royal Mixed Five league Thursday nights at Regency Bowling Center. Linda had bowled this season until she became ill. The league and many bowlers that knew her all extend our sympathy to her family in this time of sorrow. Since she worked at Houchin Blood Bank, a fund has been set up in her name. The Royal Mixed Five league has started a donation to contribute to her fund. Any bowlers who would like to donate to this fund are more than welcome to participate and can drop by Houchin to add to this fund.
On Thursday, April 24, we heard the news that we lost Marc Savoie, who also lost a battle to cancer. Marc was a well-known personality at many of our local bowling centers where he worked for years. He started out at the old Bowling Academy on 18th street, from there worked as a mailer at The Bakersfield Californian, and from there worked for Pete Lokey at Westchester Bowl and his last place to work was at Southwest Lanes.
TOURNAMENT NEWS
Congratulations to Eric Siefert, who has been bowling well at every tournament lately. First, he won the Bakersfield 6-Gamer on April 13 at Regency. He took third in the Glover House Spot Roll-Off Saturday. On Sunday he placed second in the Visalia Masters for the second time in two months.
