Alliance U-16 boys win California Cup tourney in San Bernardino

The Bakersfield Alliance Soccer Club Boys Under-16 team defeated the North County Titans, a silver division team, to win the California Cup Soccer Tournament at the San Bernardino Soccer Complex.

Earlier in the day they had defeated the Extreme Dogs, another silver division team, 4-2 to advance to the final. The team went 5-0-1 in the tournament held over the past two weekends. The team consists of the following: Austin Brown, Matt Dinkel, Carson Drake, Jairo Hernandez, Arie Kapoor, Brian Pasquini, Michael Pasquini, Oscar Perez, Freddy Reyes, Matt Thiesen, Johnny Valenzuela, Edgar Valladolid, Tyler Williams, Ryan Wilson and Luis Zarate. The team is coached by Pete Fox and managed by Marc Pasquini.

Bakersfield Volleyball Club's Elite Team for girls 14 and younger has qualified for the 14-Open Division in USA Volleyball's Junior Olympics tournament June 26-July 5 in Dallas. BVC qualified by placing second recently at the Far West JO Qualifier in Reno. Bakersfield reached the finals of the 24-team qualifier after upsetting Vision Gold and Vision Blue, the top two teams from the Northern California Volleyball Association. BVC lost the rematch with Vision Gold in the championship match 2-1. BVC is ranked third among 279 teams in its age group in the Southern California Volleyball Association, and joins 27 other teams from across the nation that have qualified for the 28-team 14 Open Division, including 6 teams from SCVA. Members of BVC's 14 Elite Team include Crissy Cunningham, Baylie Duncan, Kellie Graves, Taylor Harris, Whitney Hubble, Erin Jolley, Krista Rymer, Savannah Wedemeyer, and Hannah Wilkins. The team is coached by Greg and Stella Harris.

The Central California Amateur Softball Association will be inducting Kristine Karr-Jacobson into the CCASA Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 3 at Tachi Palace in Lemoore.

Kristine attended Kern Valley High School, and Cal State University Bakersfield. While at CSUB she was a 2 time NCAA All-American. During her ASA/USA softball career Kristine was a 5 time ASA All-American. In 2002 Kristine was one of 50 players invited to try out for the USA Olympic Team at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Ca. Kristine coached at Liberty High School in Bakersfield for 6 years, where she led her team to 3 League Titles and one Valley Championship Title. In 2007 Kristine was selected as the Kern County Woman of Softball.

* The Bakersfield Ballers (pictured) placed first in the 4th grade elite division of the 2008 NJB National All-Star tournament on April 12-13 in Anaheim. Members were: Taylor Choate, Jasmine Ramey, Addyson Peters, Lexi Gibson, Jenna Gorman, Nikki Wood, Desire Labrada, Victoria Cruz, Kylie Chavez, and Taylor Madden. The team was coached by Clayton Madden and Eddie Ramey.

* The Bakersfield Lady Dawgs 8th grade team recently won the 8th grade Gold Division of the Clovis West Hoopfest basketball tournament. Team members include: Breann Belcher, Kelsey Brewer, Mariah Dean, Rio Goesling, Taylor Humecky, Emily Lopez, Nichole Martin, Johnece Miller, Madeline Ming, Celeste Pino, and Chelsea Sanford. The team is coached by Mike Martin.

* The Bakersfield Lady Dawgs 7th grade team recently won the 7th grade Gold Division of the Clovis West Hoopfest basketball tournament. Team members include: Erin Cartell, Riley Helgren, Tiana Henry, Aubrie Massey, Erica McCall, Christina Mendoza, Jazmin Miller, Leigha Moland, and Julia Piler. The team is coached by Jimmy Henry and Greg McCall.

* The Bakersfield Lady Dawgs 4th-5th grade team recently won the Clovis West Hoopfest basketball tournament. Team members include: Jordyn Choate, Lauren Cline, Rhiana Dougan, Amber Godfrey, Alyssa Gonzales, Sara Lopez, Taylor Madden, Kennedy Nielson, Jazmine Ramey, and C.J. West. The team is coached by Clayton Madden and Eddie Ramey.

* The Bakersfield Dawgs 6th and 8th grade boys teams recently won their divisions at the Swoosh Spring Extravaganza in Orange County. The 6th grade team includes: Samuel "E" Berkshire, Derek Check, Justin Gapper, Landon Goesling, David Grimm, Kevin Hayes, Adarius Rowel, BJ Shelton, Andrew Vignolo, and Daylen Warren. Members of the 8th grade team include: Shannon Edwards, Tyler Harris, Jeremy Lee, Silas Nacita, Zachary Prince, Sukhman Sohi, Christian Tafoya, Matthew TeVelde, Joshua Western, and Erik Williams.

* Boston Fitzpatrick, 10, won the midget boys 3,000 meters (11:52), the 1,500 (5:24) and the 800 (2:38) in a meet Saturday at Liberty High. His brother Joey Fitzpatrick, 8, won the bantam 1500 ( 5:28). Both attend Almondale Elementry and also compete for the Rosedale Racers.

* Seven members of the Driller Wrestling Club placed in the top four of their weight classes at the California Junior State Freestyle Wrestling Championships April 18-20 at Lemoore High: Ian Nickell (4th, 98 lbs), Timmy Box (3rd, 130), Jonah Cruz (2nd, 145), Adam Fierro (4th, 145), Travis Rasmussen (1st, 152), Bryce Hammond (3rd, 152) and Brian Schoene (2nd, 215). The top three wrestlers in each weight class qualify to compete at the 2008 Junior National Freestyle Championships in Fargo, N.D., July 21-26.

* The Rosedale Racers youth track team's top-five finishers Saturday in the Quiet Fire Invitational in Hawthorne: Midget boys 100 (unseeded) -- 1. Damani Enokson, 14.06; Midget boys 400 (unseeded) -- 3. Damani Enokson, 1:09.3; Bantam boys 400 (unseeded) -- 4. Joel Lopez, 1:16.7; 5. Jared Ryan 1:17.4.
