Blaze starts strong, but Quakes rally for 5-2 win

RANCHO CUCAMONGA -- Jon Michael Redding shook off a rough first inning and pitched the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes to a 5-2 victory over the Bakersfield Blaze on Friday night.
The Quakes scored all of their runs in the second inning of Blaze starter J.C. Sulbaran. Rancho Cucamonga sent nine batters to plate, scoring five runs on six hits and a walk.
Nick Buss delivered a three-run double to break a 2-2 tie.
Redding (9-6) held the Blaze to four hits, walked one and struck out three. Josh Walter went the final two innings for his first save. Bakersfield finished with five hits.
Dayne Read of the Blaze walked to lead off the game and advanced to third on a single by Ryan LaMarre. Brodie Greene followed with a two-run double before Redding settled down and retired the next three Blaze hitters.
In six innings, Sulbaran (8-4) allowed five runs on six hits, walked one and struck out four. The Quakes finished with seven hits.
The team continue their series at 7 p.m. today.
